Rams Run Away From Tigers In Fourth Quarter

For three quarters of its opening round contest against Schuyler County, Scotland County looked like it might break through for the teams first win of the year. But the Rams used a 27-11 advantage in the fourth period to keep the Tigers winless with a 95-72 defeat in game one of the Putnam County Tourney held in Unionville December 6.

The Tigers run and gun offense was working early as Scotland County poured in 21 points in the games first eight minutes. The Rams kept up the pace, hitting for 22 in the same time span to take a one-point lead. That margin grew to 43-40 at the halftime as the Tigers stayed with one of the most improved teams in the Tri-Rivers Conference.

Scotland County remained in striking distance, trailing 68-61 after three periods. But Schuyler County (3-1) put the game away in the final eight minutes.

Matt Wickert posted his second 20-point performance of the young season. The sophomore led a balanced scoring attack that also saw Jared Shelley and Bryce Blomme reach double-figures with 14 and 10 points respectively. Greg Neagle finished with eight points and Chris Humes and Lathan Watson each had six as all nine SCR-I players made it into the scorebook.
