Tigers Earn 16 Spots On Tri-Rivers All-Conference Football Teams

The Scotland County Tigers earned 16 spots on the annual Tri-Rivers All-Conference football teams as voted on by the league coaches last week.

Michael Garnett highlighted the selections for the Tigers. The senior was a unanimous selection to the first team offensive line. He also earned first team honors as a defensive lineman, and was the top vote recipient at both positions.

Joining Garnett on the line were seniors Greg Neagle and Jon Keller. Neagle earned second team offensive line and Keller was honorable mention. Neagle earned second team at defensive end where Keller was also honorable mention. Senior Devin Mauck was honorable mention on the defensive line.

The Tigers had a pair of all-league running backs. Jared Shelley earned second team honors after finishing the year with 1,138 yards and 8 TDs. Fullback Tim Robinson earned honorable mention as much for his lead blocks as for his 277 yards and two scores.

Matt Wickert was named second team at receiver. The sophomore led the team with 35 catches for 424 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Fellow sophomore Marcus Shalley earned honorable mention at quarterback. He completed 63 of 160 passes for 782 yards and nine TDs while throwing just four interceptions.

The team had its only other first team performer on defense. B.J. Houghton earned the top honors at linebacker where he recorded 84 tackles, two sacks and made one interception..

Shelley, the teams leading tackler, was named to the second team at linebacker. He made 90 stops, had one interception and returned a fumble recovery for a TD.

Senior Joe Talbert earned honorable mention at linebacker. He accounted for 60 tackles, had one interception and one fumble recovery.

Wickert was honored on the second team at defensive back. He played both safety and cornerback and had a team-high four interceptions. The sophomore also recovered two fumbles and made 50 tackles on the year.

Zach McBee came in for injured all-state kicker Tim Robinson and did an admirable job. He was named to the honorable mention list at kicker. Clark County running back Sean Kite was named the leagues most valuable player. Phil Lite of Putnam County was the coach of the year.
