Lady Tigers Season Ends In District #12 Semifinals

For the second straight year the Scotland County softball season ended in extra innings in the semifinals of the district tournament as Clark County beat SCR-I 4-3 in District 12 play at Memphis October 9th.

The Lady Tigers rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game in the sixth inning only to see the game slip away in the bottom of the eighth.

The Indians jumped on top 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning courtesy of a triple by Clark County pitcher Ashley Wallingford. The junior hurler threw a no-hitter and also went 3-3 at the plate with a walk.

SCR-I hurler Rebecca Consbrock worked out of a jam in the third frame. The Indians had runners at first and second with just one out but Consbrock struck out the next two batters to keep the game close.

Clark County added to its lead in the fifth inning. Consbrock walked the ninth-place hitter to start the rally. An error on the Lady Tigers followed by a passed ball and an RBI single from Wallingford made the score 3-0.

But SCR-I battled back in the top of the sixth. Consbrock beat out a ground ball to the shortstop. Valerie Crawford laid down a sacrifice bunt but the throw got away. Consbrock tried to score but was caught between third and home. She was able to slide in safe after the rundown broke down. With Crawford on third base Jamie Fuller bunted and Clark County tried to get the out at home. Crawford slid in safe to cut the deficit to 3-2. Fuller went all the way to second on the play. She then stole third and came into score when the throw got away. SCR-I tied the game 3-3 without the benefit of a hit.

Consbrock Ked the side in the seventh inning to force extra innings.

But after SCR-I failed to score in its half of the eighth the Indians finished off the Scotland County season. Wallingford singled to start the frame. A courtesy runner was able to get to second on a fly out to rightfield. She reached third on an SCR-I error and with two outs Nicole Flood singled up the middle to plate the winning run.

Consbrock took the loss despite allowing just five hits and a walk while striking out a season-high 15 batters. Wallingford did not allow a hit while striking out 11. SCR-I ended the year with a 13-7 mark. Clark County improved to 14-5 on the year and advanced to play Putnam County in the title game.
