Putnam County Pounds SCR-I In 14-0 Softball Loss
Every team is capable of a bad game. Unfortunately for the Scotland County softball squad that poor performance came at a time it could ill afford to lose. The Lady Tigers hopes of a conference title were virtually eliminated September 23rd in a 14-0 drubbing at the hands of Putnam County.
Things started off bad and just got worse for SCR-I which suffered its only loss by the 10-run rule at the hands of the Midgets, who remained unbeaten in league play.
Putnam County scored five times in the opening inning courtesy of three errors and a pair of walks. The Midgets added three more tallies in the second before finishing off SCR-I with six runs in the fourth inning.
The bulk of the damage was caused by fielding miscues on the SCR-I defense. Putnam County managed just four base hits in the five innings.
Scotland County was held to just three base runners by Putnam County hurler Jackie Loughead who struck out eight in the shutout.
Rebecca Consbrock allowed just four hits but did walk a season-high five batters in the defeat.
Scotland County dropped to 7-6 on the season and 2-3 in the Tri-Rivers Conference.
