Wildcats Win 6-4 With Walk-off Homerun
Scotland County softball fans knew that a win over Putnam County could give the Lady Tigers a shot at a Tri-Rivers Conference Title. Unfortunately SCR-I may have been looking forward to that key September 23rd match-up a few days too early as Milan threw a monkey wrench in those plans with a 6-4 defeat of Scotland County September 21.
The Wildcats scored two runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to hand the Lady Tigers the crucial 6-4 defeat that dropped the team to 2-2 in league play.
SCR-I had opened a 2-0 lead in the opening inning. The first three hitters, Kirsten Johnston, Rebecca Consbrock and Ali Fromm all had singles. After the RBI hit by Fromm, Jamie Fuller grounded out to score Consbrock for the 2-0 advantage. Milan trimmed the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning courtesy of two SCR-I errors.
With two outs in the third inning Milan plated three runs, again thanks to fielding miscues by Scotland County.
SCR-I battled back to tie the game at 4-4 in the fifth inning with Johnston and Fromm crossing the plate.
But Milan won the game in the Wildcats’ final at bat. After the first two batters struck out, Milan had a player reach on an error before the team’s clean-up hitter smashed a home run to win the contest.
Rebecca Consbrock took the loss on the hill. She allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out eight. Fromm went 3-3 at the plate to lead the offense. Johnston was 2-4 and Consbrock was 2-3.
