Consbrock Pitches Perfect Game To Blank Brookfield
The Scotland County softball team continued to hold onto aspirations of a conference title by blanking Brookfield 10-0 September 20 in Memphis. The Lady Tigers improved to 3-1 in league play in perfect fashion.
Senior hurler Rebecca Consbrock threw a perfect game, facing the minimum 15 batters in a game shortened to just five innings by the 10-run rule. She did not allow a base runner while striking out seven.
The SCR-I bats gave Consbrock plenty of support. The Lady Tigers jumped on top with a pair of runs in the second inning. Valerie Crawford walked to open the inning. She stole second and third base and came in to score when the catcher’s throw to third base sailed into left field. The run would have scored anyway as the next batter, Jacqui Drummond cracked a triple over the leftfielder’s head. She scored on an RBI ground out by Angie Bulen to make the score 2-0.
Crawford and Jamie Fuller reached on errors in the third inning ahead of Drummond’s second triple of the contest, this one a line drive in the left-center field gap. Drummond scored on a base hit by Ashley Ellison expanding the margin to 5-0.
The score was 9-0 after four innings. Consbrock walked to start the frame. She scored on a base hit by Ali Fromm. Catcher Jessica Bair singled in Fromm and scored when Crawford reached on an error. Crawford crossed the plate on an RBI ground out by Drummond.
SCR-I ended the game in the bottom of the fifth. Ellison walked and came around to score the game-ending run on a hit by Consbrock.
