SCR-I Softball Squad Squashes Schuyler County 17-1
With so many games decided by just one run the Scotland County softball team was happy to get a little breathing room in a win at Schuyler County September 7. Before the game was over the team may have needed some oxygen from running the bases as SCR-I demolished the Rams 17-1.
All nine spots in the Lady Tigers batting order recorded at least one hit as the team batted around in two separate innings.
SCR-I scored four times in the opening frame. Three more tallies were added in the second inning. After going down in order in the third, Scotland County blew the game wide open with a nine-run fourth inning. The team tacked on three insurance runs in the fifth and final at bat.
Valerie Crawford led the onslaught with a perfect 5-5 performance at the plate. She also scored four runs. Ali Fromm and Jacqui Drummond were both 4-4. Fromm cracked three doubles while Drummond had a pair of two baggers. Freshman Kirsten Johnston collected four hits, including a pair of doubles.
Rebecca Consbrock enjoyed the run support even though she didn’t really need it. Her workload was reduced to five innings thanks to the 10-run rule. The senior hurler gave up one run in the fourth inning. She allowed just three hits, one walk and hit one batter while striking out three.
