Softball Team Drops Season Opener 5-1 To Clark County
After back-to-back cancellations due to the rain the Scotland County softball team finally took the field August 26 at Kahoka. The season opener went the way of the home team as Clark County posted a 5-1 victory in a contest that was much closer than the final tally.
The Lady Tigers jumped in front in the top of the first inning. Rebecca Consbrock singled and advanced on a passed ball. She scored on a base hit by Jamie Fuller.
The Lady Indians erased the advantage in their half of the frame. With one out Clark County got its first runner via a base on balls. Pitcher Ashley Wallingford delivered the only hit of the inning. Both runners were able to score courtesy of defensive miscues by SCR-I.
The score remained 2-1 until the bottom of the fifth inning when Clark County blew the game open with three more runs. All three tallies were unearned as a costly error on the infield kept the inning alive for Clark County.
Consbrock took the loss on the mound. She allowed just five hits but gave up five walks in her season debut. The senior hurler struck out the side in the sixth inning to give her 8 Kís in the game.
Wallingford limited SCR-I to just four hits on the night. Consbrock was 2-3 at the plate. Fuller and Jacqui Drummond had the other base knocks.
