Daggs, Soper, Blankenship, Jr. get first wins of 2004 at SCS

Memphis, MO (August 21)-MFA Farmers Elevator & Produce Company/MFA Plant Foods Night produce three new winners of the season at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway. Danny Daggs (USRA B-Modifieds), Josh Soper (USRA Hobby Stocks) and Gordon Blankenship, Jr. (Hornets) visited victory lane for the first time this season at Memphis, while Jody Wood (Late Models), Tony Fraise (USRA Modifieds), Mike Robinson (USRA Stock Cars) and Brian Overhulser (Cruisers) also picked up wins on the night.

Thad Trump took the lead on lap 1 of the 20 lap Late Model feature from his front row starting spot, with Jody Wood challenging him in second. Trump, who was running the top of the track, and Wood, who was on the bottom, ran the next 5 laps side by side, with Wood grabbing the advantage on lap 6.

Wood held on to the top spot until lap 12, when Trump went by on the top side to get the lead. Wood then came back on the bottom the next lap to get the lead back and then held off Trump on the final 7 laps to grab his second win of 2004 at Memphis. Rob Kirchner was 3rd, Gordy Grubb finished 4th, with Jeff Gerhardt coming home in 5th. Wood and Lynn Monroe picked up heat race wins.

The 20 lap USRA Modified feature saw Tony Fraise jump out front on the start, with Mike Delozier following him in second. Fraise had his car hooked up again this week, as he pulled away from the field to lead all 20 laps. The win was Fariseís second in a row and fifth win of the season at the speedway.

Mark Burgtorf was 2nd, Ryan Meyer came from 8th to finish in 3rd, Brad Ford was 4th, with Kevin Peters rounding out the top 5. Heat race winners were Fraise and Ford.

Mike Robinson came from his 4th place starting spot to take the lead on lap 1 of the 15 lap USRA Stock Car feature. Robinson would be challenged by Jason Cook on the bottom, as Jim Brown, who started 7th, and Ryan Cook, who started 8th, were working up to make it a four car battle for the top spot. J. Cook would over take Robinson on lap 13, only to have the caution come out, giving Robinson the lead back. Robinson then held off all challenges on the final 2 laps to pick up the win. Brown was 2nd, R. Cook was 3rd, J. Cook was 4th, with Troy Alexander coming from the rear after begin involved in a spin to finish 5th. Robinson and J. Cook picked up heat race wins.

The 15 lap USRA B-Modified feature went non-stop, with Danny Daggs getting his first win of the season at Memphis. Daggs would grab the lead on lap 1 and never looked back, as he led all 15 laps to grab the win. Jerry Reese, Jr. was 2nd, Jack Evans, Jr. came from 13th to finish in 3rd, Wyatt Lantz was 4th, with Jerry Poor coming from 12th to round out the top 5. Heat race winners were John Shaffer and Larry Newman.

The 12 lap USRA Hobby Stock feature was one of the best feature on the night, with the top five cars finishing side by side. Josh Soper took the lead on lap 1, with Jeremy Hamlin challenging him in second. Josh would hold the lead, as Jeff Soper, Hamlin, Abe Huls and Chris Wibbell, who started 8th, battled side by side for the second spot. Josh held off all four drivers the entire 12 laps to pick up his first career USRA Hobby Stock feature in his first year in the division. Jeff Soper, Joshís father, would follow his son in 2nd, Hamlin was 3rd, Huls was 4th, with Wibbell rounding out the top 5. Jeff Soper, Brandon Symmonds and Tony Becerra picked up heat race wins.

Michael St. Clair took the lead on lap 1 of the 10 lap Cruiser feature and then held it until lap 5, when Brian Overhulser went by for the top spot. Overhulser then held off St. Clair on the final 5 laps to claim the win. Keith Reed was 3rd, David Hudson was 4th, with Bill OíHaver coming home in 5th. Heat race winners were Overhulser and Jody Small.

Dennis Schulte jumped out front on the drop of the green flag in the 10 lap Hornet feature, with Dave Burdette challenging him in second. D. Schulte would hold the top spot until lap 6,when Gordon Blankenship, Jr. who started 8th, slipped by for the lead. Blankenship, Jr. then led the final 4 laps to pick up his first win of 2004 at Memphis. Tyler Schulte came from 7th to finish in 2nd, Brandon Savage was 3rd, D.Schulte was 4th, with Burdette rounding out the top 5. Savage and Blankenship, Jr. picked up heat race wins.

Coming up next week will be Slayton Polaris/Morgan Fertilizer Season Championship Night, with the 2004 Track Champions being determined next week. Gates will Open at 4:30 p.m., Hot Laps at 6:00 p.m., and Racing at 6:30p.m.
