Tigers Get Final Tune-Up In Football Jamboree
Are you ready for some football? The famous Monday Night Football slogan will be ringing out on Friday night, as weeks of practice will culminate in the first live action for the Scotland County football team.
The Tigers will travel to Monroe City, Friday, August 27 to participate in the pre-season jamboree. The scrimmage will kick off at 7:00 p.m.
SCR-I will take place in the practice games with Salisbury, Schuyler County and the host Panthers. The squads play a round-robin against each of the three other teams.
The jamboree opens with a showcase for each team. Two teams take to the field and run 10 plays of offense then 10 plays of defense against the opposition. The series starts with varsity players and concludes with junior varsity members to allow the entire squad to participate.
After the first two show case matches, the field is then split in half, with all four teams on the field at once, two teams doing battle on each end of the stadium.
There is no kicking or punting in the jamboree. The team starts at the 40-yard line and has 10 plays to advance for a touchdown. If the team is halted on a fourth down, the ball goes back to the original line of scrimmage and the downs are reset until all 10 plays have been used.
ďThe kids are pretty excited about this Friday,Ē stated SCR-I Coach Brent Bondurant. ďItís something to look forward to, heading into real action as opposed to practicing against one another.Ē
