Better Late Than Never For Go-Kart Opener
Racing finally got underway May 15 at the Show-Me Speedway in Downing after the weather had forced the cancellation of the two previously scheduled season openers.
There were a total of 46 entries that took to the go-kart track on Saturday night including the debut of the new Rookie class.
Ben Bolden was the winner in the premier of the new class. He took the checkered flag in the #5 kart while Joey Hagar finished second in the #38 ride.
The sportsman trophy went to the #38 kart of Ron Tennyson. He edged out Lee Lynch (#11) and Brad Ray (#22).
The 6K kart topped the field in the Junior I division. Mitch Kriegshauser was the winner ahead of Brittany Thelen (#8x) and Rachel Shahan (#8).
Ryan Jacobs crossed the finish line first in the Stock Medium feature race. The #94 cart held off #48 of Ryan Kirkpatrick and the #15 of Kirk Hopkins.
No one could catch the #44 kart of Andy Garrett. The Memphis driver won the Junior I – Heavy class ahead of Greg Tuggle (#34) and Clay Darr (#18).
Tyler Hagar took home top honors for the Junior II class beating out Schuyler Cavender and Wes Golden for the honors.
In the Over 40 class it was Rhea Golden making it to the winner’s circle. She defeated Mike Thelen and David Kirkpatrick.
The 50-50 winner on the evening was Junior Tuggle of LaPlata. The next races are scheduled for May 29. The gates open at 5:00 with hot laps at 6:00 and racing at 7:00 p.m.
