SCR-I Golf Team Headed Back To State Tourney
The Scotland County golf team is headed back to the state tournament, all be it with a relatively new cast of players. The Tigers took second place in the Class 1 District #2 golf tourney held at Norwoods Golf Club in Hannibal on May 5th.
The top two finish qualified the Tigers to head back to the state tourney. This yearís finale will be held at Deer Lake Golf Course in Springfield on May 17-18.
Van-Far topped the 10-team field with a round of 329. Tanner Fennewald, a junior, led the way for the Vandalia school with a round of 78 to take home top individual honors.
SCR-I held off LaPlata by just two strokes to seal the state bid with a round of 355. The Bulldogs were third at 357 followed by South Shelby at 362 and Paris at 378. Rounding out the rest of the field was Schuyler County (380), Canton (403), Elsberry (433), Louisiana (437) and Knox County (457).
Corvin Drummond turned in the fourth best round of the day to earn all-district honors. He carded an 82. Marcus Shalley also made the top honors with a score of 87 that was tied for 12th overall.
Zach McBee had a 91 while Logan Trueblood carded a 95 and Kyle Lister added a 97.
This marks the second straight year the team has made it to state. In 2003, the Tigers finished 6th overall led by Drummond who shot a 163 to finish ninth overall. The senior is joined by sophomore Kyle Lister as the only two returning players from last yearís state qualifying team that also featured Chase Moore, Andy Boyer and Josh McBee who were all lost to graduation.
