Junior High Teams Host SCR-I Relays
The Scotland County Junior High Relays were held May 3rd in Memphis with nine teams competing in the track and field events.
The host teams finished fourth in boys division while the girls earned the fifth spot.
Clark County won the girls class with a score of 126.5. Milan was second followed by Putnam County and Schuyler County. SCR-I scored 62 points followed by Knox County, Canton, North Shelby and LaPlata.
The Indians also took top honors in the boys class with a score of 115 that tied for first place with Schuyler County. Putnam County was third followed by SCR-I with 79 points. LaPlata finished in fifth ahead of North Shelby, Knox County, Milan and Canton.
The girls team had a pair of top finishes. Melissa Cotton won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 6:26. The Lady Tigers 800-meter relay team also took top honors.
Sidney Priebe finished second in the the 800-meter run while the SCR-I sprint medley team also finished second. Fourth place points were earned by Tara Matlock in the 400-meter dash and Andrea Shelley in the 200-meter dash. Valerie Oldham took fifth place in the shotput while Kayla Winn was sixth in the discus.
The boys squad was led by four first place finishes.
Logan Bode won the discus with a throw of 128í3. Luke Hillyer was tops in the shotput with a heave of 43í7. The Tigers also took top honors in the 4x100 meter relay and the 4x200 meter relay.
The teamís sprint medley squad was second. Eric Glass was runner-up in the 100-meter dash. Hillyer earned third place points in the 100-meter hurdles and fourth in the long jump. Nathan Purvis took fifth in the 1,600-meter run and Riley Watkins was fifth in the discus. Jacob Howard picked up sixth place in the 400-meter hurdles.
