Young Campus Bowl Team Stays Undefeated
The Scotland County junior high campus bowl team remained undefeated on the season and did so in impressive fashion by running the table at the Schuyler County Tournament March 23.
Clark County was no match for the Tigers in the opening game. SCR-I demolished the Indians 465-225 to advance to the semi-finals.
Scotland County led 110-30 after the first 15 questions and never looked back. Julie Triplett answered 12 toss-up questions to lead the way. Loren Billington added 90 points and Lance Smith finished with 80 points.
The Tigers bested the host team 475-275 in the second round.
After falling behind 40-0, SCR-I rallied to build a 90-50 first period lead on the path to victory. Triplett led the attack with 110 points. Smith answered nine toss-up questions and Billington was one off that pace with eight correct answers.
The Tigers jumped on the first four questions in the championship game and left little chance for Putnam County on the way to a 120-30 lead. As the team had done all tournament long, the Tigers continued the charge and led 240-115 by the intermission before coasting to the victory.
Scotland County’s three-headed scoring machine cemented its places on the all-bowl team with a solid finishing act. Triplett saved her best for last by answering 13 toss-up questions. Billington chimed in with 80 points and Smith finished with 60 points.
All three SCR-I players were named to the tournament all-bowl team based on their scoring averages in the event.
