Tigers Take Revenge On Rams To Advance To District Title Game

Scotland County had a little something to prove in Wednesday nightís district semi-final match-up with Schuyler County. If the possibility of the match-up being the final game of the year wasnít enough motivation for SCR-I, the Tigers also were coming off a loss to the Rams a week earlier. In that game the Tigers were held to a season-low 30 points, including a big zero in the final period of the contest.

The Tigers came out like a team on a mission and played an inspired 32 minutes of basketball resulting in an emotional 59-46 victory.

The victory was definitely hard-fought as both teams played a physical contest with plenty of contact.

SCR-I took the early lead behind a pair of three pointers from Danny Roach. A three-point play by Cody Holt gave SCR-I a 13-7 lead after the first period.

Bryce Blomme came off the bench to give the Tigers a needed boost in the second period. The freshman scored four points in the quarter and helped lead the SCR-I transition game, which opened up a 29-15 halftime margin for the Tigers.

The team used its presence in the paint in the third period to maintain its advantage. Greg Neagle and Clint Cottrell each had a pair of baskets in the lane as the Tigers maintained a 41-27 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Rams pulled within 10 points at the start of the fourth period before Neagle headed off the run with a couple hard-earned buckets in the paint.

Schuyler County made another charge and once again threatened to trim the margin to single digits with just over two minutes left to play. This time it was Cottrell responding. The senior dominated the boards all evening and came up with a big offensive rebound off a missed free throw to earn a three-point play.

Roach sealed the victory with four straight free throws as the Tigers advanced to the district title tilt with a 59-46 victory.

The senior guard led the Tigers with a season-high 17 points. Cottrell cashed in with 13 points and Neagle added 12 to pace the Tigers.
