Junior Varsity Boys Close Out Basketball Season In Style
The season could not have ended much better for the Scotland County junior varsity boys than it did last week.
Just three nights after pouring in a season high 73 points to knock off Knox County in front of the home Memphis crowd, the Tigers hosted Clark County and beat the Indians 59-45 to avenge a February 14 loss in the Edina Tourney.
It was bombs away February 23 as the Tigers scored 29 points in the first eight minutes of the game to open a commanding lead over Knox County. Bryce Blomme hit three, three pointers and Zach McBee had a pair of shots from behind the arc as SCR-I lit up the Eagles early and often.
But Knox County would not go away. The visitors cut the deficit to 44-33 at halftime and were within five points with just under eight minutes in the game.
The Tigers sealed the win at the free throw, hitting 13 of 18 from the charity stripe in the last period to secure the 73-66 victory.
Blomme led all scorers with 19 points. Matt Wickert went 10 for 12 from the free-throw line to end the night with 16 points. McBee made it three players in double-digits with 10 points. Chris Humes pitched in with seven points while Grant Blomme, Lathan Watson and Chris Holt rounded out the well-balanced attack with six points each.Three nights later it was a big finish to the year, literally, as SCR-I scored 26 fourth quarter points to come from behind for a 59-45 victory over Clark County.
Humes scored 13 of his team-high 16 points in the final eight minutes to help secure the win. Bryce Blomme scored 13 points and Watson finished with 11. Wickert pitched in with six points while Colby Brown added five and Dustin Roach scored four points.
The victory avenged a 45-36 loss to the Indians two weeks earlier. Bryce Blomme had 13 points and Humes added 11 in the losing cause.
