Lady Tigers Finish 1-2 In Knox County JV Tourney
Points were hard to come by for the Scotland County junior varsity girls at the Knox County Tournament, where the Lady Tigers dropped two of three games in which they were held to only 16 points per loss.
SCR-I opened the event with a 37-16 loss to South Shelby February 9. The Lady Birds took a commanding 16-5 lead in the first period and never looked back.
“We played really good defense, holding them to just a total of eight points in the second and third period,” said coach Josh Smith. “Unfortunately we only managed four points ourselves in that same time span.”
SCR-I shot just 15-percent in the game, making 7 of 44 field goal attempts. Jacqui Drummond was high scorer with six points.
“We didn’t play real bad at all, we just couldn’t get the ball to go in the hoop,” Smith said.
SCR-I rebounded for a 30-26 win over North Shelby in game two. The Lady Tigers broke a 20-20 tie in the final eight minutes to pick up the win.
Drummond led the team with 12 points and nine rebounds while Ashley Ellison added six points.
Game three was another offensive struggle for Scotland County. The girls fell behind 24-12 at halftime and lost 52-16.
Leslie Duley, Lauren Grogan and Drummond each had four points in the loss.
