SPRINT Quiz Bowl Tourney Brings 40 Teams To Memphis
The collective I.Q. of Scotland County grew by leaps and bounds on January 17 when more than 200 of the smartest kids from the Tri-State area converged on Memphis for the annual S.P.R.I.N.T. Academic Quiz Bowl competition.
Forty teams representing 15 different schools participated in the event in two separate divisions. A total of 213 players took part in the tournament including several Scotland County teams.
Knox County had a strong showing in Division I for fifth and sixth grade teams. The Knox County “B” Team took first while the school’s “A” team finished third. North Shelby had a similar showing. The Raiders’ “A” Team was second with the “B” Team earning fourth place.
Division II featured teams of seventh and eighth graders. Clark County took the top honors. Highland earned second place followed by Kirksville in third and the Monroe City “A” team in fourth.
“The SPRINT Academic Quiz Bowl is an annual event which has given 40 teams an opportunity to showcase their academic talents,” stated organizer Denise Blaine.
The Scotland County R-I Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) worked in conjunction with SPRINT parents to operate the concession stands for the event
“A big thank you goes to all who participated in the event,” Blaine said. “This is truly a community event which benefits all.”
