SCR-I Preparing For 22nd Annual Spelling Bee
Scotland County R-I Schools are preparing for the 22nd annual Spelling Bee that will be held at the North School gym on Friday, February 13th beginning at 9:00 a.m. The Bee will begin with the second grade pre-Spelling Bee. Second grade participants are Hailey Dial, Jordyn Doubet and Christian Hunter from 2A and Emily Ebeling, Betsy Johnson, and Brice Cowell from 2B. Alternates are Ryan Slatyon and Shelby Eggleston.
Following the second grade pre-Spelling Bee will be the all- school match. This yearís participants are Hailie Stone and Thomas Shannan from 3A; Jennifer Miller and Tahnee Forquer from 3B. Third grade alternates are Uriah Eggers and Tori Whitaker. Derrick Muntz and Loren Smith from 4A and Brock Bondurant and Logan Payne from 4B. Fourth grade alternates are Courtney Jackson and Toni Inman. 5A participants are Samara Brush and Marie DeMarce; 5B participants are Sarah Garrett and Levi Woollums. Fifth grade alternates are Rod Sears and Kasey Dial. 6A participants are McKinsay Cooley and Bethanie Grubb; 6B participants are Jennifer Gordy and Hannah Small. Sixth grade alternates are Cord Allison and Kelly Lister. Seventh grade participants are Melissa Cotton, Derek Weider, Scott Johnson, Shyanne Barton. The seventh grade alternate is Tabitha Bair. Eighth grade participants are Deidre Blaine, Kaitlin Grubb, Jeff Kice, and Breanna Bair. The eighth grade alternate is Paige Troutman.
In order to prepare for the Spelling Bee, students in grades three - eight compete against one another in their individual classrooms. The two top spellers in each homeroom class earn a spot in the local Bee. The winner of the Spelling Bee then goes on to compete in the Quincy Herald-Whig Regional Spelling Bee, which will be held Monday, March 22nd at Quincy Junior High School, Quincy, IL.
