Road Warriors Get First Win In Memphis

After playing their first eight games of the 2003-04 season on the road, the Lady Tigers picked up home victory #1 on January 15.
Most teams enjoy playing on their home court but for the Scotland County Lady Tigers it may take a little while to get used to the Memphis surroundings. After being on the road for their first eight games, the Lady Tigers had to wait to play in front of the home crowd until the middle of January.

For the second night in three days, SCR-I struggled a bit with the ďunfamiliarĒ surroundings of home. The Lady Tigers fell behind Schuyler County in the first period before ultimately rallying for a 47-43 win.

Ali Fromm put up six quick points in the opening quarter but it wasnít enough to keep the Lady Rams from building a 13-11 lead.

Angie Bulen sparked a second quarter run with a steal that she took coast to coast for the lay in. Fellow sophomore Brittney Courtright also came off the bench to boost her team by drilling back-to-back buckets to put Scotland County ahead 19-17 with 3:26 remaining in the period.

Schuyler County rallied to regain the lead to open the third period. The two teams went back and forth until a jumper by Courtright gave SCR-I the lead back for good at 30-29 with 1:39 remaining in the third quarter.

That didnít mean the game wasnít close as the Rams pulled within a point on several occasions and tied the game to start the fourth period.

After Rebecca Consbrock scored in the paint Jessie Cotton nailed a three pointer to give her team some breathing room.

Cotton hit another jumper before two consecutive scores by Courtright had the lead at 44-37 with just 51 ticks left on the clock.

Schuyler County made it interesting hitting two three pointers in the gameís final minute shrinking a seven point bulge down to 45-43 with 18 seconds to play. But Fromm sealed the win by hitting three of four free throws to secure the 47-43 victory.

Fromm hit 11 of 15 from the charity stripe on the night to finish with a game-high 17 points. Courtright pitched in 10 points while Cotton scored eight points.
