Tigers Outlast Schuyler County For 47-36 Victory

Schuyler County sprinted out of the gates but it was Scotland County that had the endurance to pull away at the end of the race to pick up a 47-36 victory in a non-conference basketball match up in Memphis January 15.

The Rams opened an early advantage as the Tigers had trouble getting rolling on offense. After Aaron Dale scored in the paint and Cody Holt hit a pair of free throws, the Tigers went nearly five minutes without a score. Dale ended the run when he rimmed in a three-pointer with two minutes left in the period. But that was the last points of the quarter allowing Schuyler County to take a 12-7 lead.

After Dale started the second quarter with four quick points Holt drilled a three pointer to put SCR-I on top 16-14.

Scotland County expanded the advantage to 23-18 heading into the locker room at halftime.

The two teams struggled a bit on the third quarter, combining for just nine points over the eight minutes. Fortunately for the Tigers they had a 6-3 advantage in the period to expand the lead to 29-21.

The Tigers kicked it in gear in the final eight minutes pulling away for the easy win. Holt had six points during a key run as the lead grew to double digits.

Greg Neagle scored the last four points in the 47-36 win as Scotland County secured the win in the annual Rock game. The Tigers celebrated by hoisting the trophy presented in memory of former SCR-I basketball player Jason Rockhold.

Holt led all scorers on the night with 15 points. Aaron Dale contributed 13 in the winning effort and Neagle finished with seven points.

The Tigers improved to 6-6 on the season while Schuyler County dropped to 2-10 on the year. The two teams will meet again February 20 in Queen City in a Tri-Rivers Conference game.
