Canton Avenges First Loss By Besting SCR-I 64-39
The season-long undefeated streak ended for the Canton boys basketball team last week and apparently they were a bit upset about it. The Wildcats took it out on Scotland County when the Tigers traveled to Canton Friday, January 16.
Canton outscored SCR-I 24-5 in the first period en route to the 64-39 victory.
Toss out the first period and the story was not so bleak for Scotland County.
The defense of Jared Shelley and Carl Wittstock held Canton’s all-stater Aaron Hill to just 20 points. The word just is used in this context because Hill is averaging almost 30 points a game.
The final three periods of the contest were relatively evenly matched. SCR-I got things going on offense while also clamping down a bit on the defensive end to slow the Wildcats down.
Unfortunately for the Tigers they could never cut into that early 20-point deficit, falling to 6-7 on the year. Canton improved to 11-1.
Clint Cottrell had 14 points to pace the Tigers offense. Cody Holt finished with seven points.
