New Race Promoter To Hold Rules Meeting January 11
While below zero temperatures and several inches of snow may not have local fans thinking about racing, new Scotland County Speedway Promoter Todd Staley announced that the cars will hit the track in April with a special show.
Staley, who is the president of the United States Modified Touring Series, has announced that he will feature weekly Saturday night races in Memphis beginning April 23 and running through the first weekend in October. Staley will be assisted at SCS by his brother Jamie. Ed Sheckler will be handling the marketing for the local track.
Scotland County Speedway will be sanctioned by the United States Racing Association in 2004. There will be a track points fund for each of the five classes, modifieds, B-Mods, hobby stocks, stock cars and two-man cruisers. In addition there will be a national points fund for the modifieds, stock cars and hobby stocks through the USRA.
The track promoters are promising good purses for all classes and noted tow money will be paid to any non-qualifiers at each week’s race.
The 2004 season will kick off April 23-24 with a special two-day show at Scotland County Speedway as the USMTS makes its first stop of the year in Memphis. All five classes will be racing in the event with the modifieds highlighting the event with a $2,000 to win race on Friday followed by the big $3,000 to win show on Saturday. Sponsors have indicated larger prize pools will be available for the other classes as well.
The season will conclude with another two-day event October 1-2 with the Pepsi- Mountain Dew Mid-America Nationals for all classes.
The new promoter and his team are continuing to build the schedule of events for the upcoming season. Sheckler is working on the sponsor line-up. Anyone interested in purchasing sponsorship rights at the track can contact him at 309-734-7913.
“We are looking for a great season at the Scotland County Speedway,” Sheckler said.
The track promoter will host a rules meeting Sunday, January 11 at 1:00 p.m. at the Memphis Fire Station for all drivers and race teams. For more information on the meeting or the upcoming season contact Staley at 515-832-7944.
