CHARLES L. BITTNER

Charles Lee “Charlie” Bittner, 79, of Luray, MO, died October 17, 2004, at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, MO.
He was born the son of Carl and Hillis Faye (Wagner) Bittner on February 4, 1925 in Scotland County, MO.
Charlie was a lifelong resident of northeast Missouri, spending his later years in the Cantril-Luray area. He was a retired farmer who enjoyed spending time on his farm and caring for his animals. Charlie was a hard worker, a good-hearted man who loved all of God’s creatures.
Charlie was a member of the Luray Baptist Church.
He was a kind, gentle man who never knew a stranger. Charlie was always eager to do whatever he could for friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a brother, Darrell Wagner.
He is survived by his companion, Pat Nye of Luray, MO; a son, Charles Patrick Bittner of New Hampton, MO; a daughter, Sherri Flynn of Kennett, MO; a step-son, Ernest Foutz of Canton, IL; a brother, Bill Bittner of Liberty, MO; grandchildren, Charles Zachariah Bittner of New Hampton, MO, Diana Faye Bittner and Patricia Anne Bittner of Miami, OK, Karl Adrian Bittner of Marseilles, France; great-grandchild, Charles Zachariah Bittner, Jr. of New Hampton, MO; nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services were held October 21, 2004, at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis, MO, with Pastor Mark Boley officiating. Special music was provided by Heather Brown, soloist, accompanied by Betty Jo Smith, pianist. Serving as pallbearers were Ed Ott, Eddie Nye, Lester Hopp, Rusty Smith, Bob St. Clair, Les Hawthorne, and Larry Thompson. Honorary bearer was Robert Smith. Interment was in the Brock Cemetery, north of Memphis, MO. Memorials have been suggested to the family and may be mailed to or left at Gerth Funeral Service, 115 S. Main, Memphis, MO 63555.
