WALTER LECEN BYRN
(4/7/1936 – 8/4/2004)
Walter Lecen Byrn, 68, departed this life at his rural Greentop, MO home August 4, 2004, after a battle with cancer.
The son of Corbert Roy and Laura Marie (Davis) Byrn Stamper, was born on April 7, 1936 in Schuyler County, MO.
On August 4, 1962, he was united in marriage to Donna Louise Baxter at the Coffey Christian Church, south of Downing, MO. To this union two sons were born, Douglas Lecen and Brian Lee.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Byrn; two sons, Douglas Lecen Byrn and wife, Stacey of Downing, MO and Brian Lee Byrn and fiancee, Julie Ebert of Greentop, MO; four very special grandchildren, Logan Douglas Byrn, MacKenzie Brooke Byrn, Kylie Marie Byrn and Weston Le Byrn; two sisters, Geraldine Kimmel and husband, Keith of Queen City, MO and Carol Pratte and husband, Dwayne of Kirksville, MO; one niece, Judy Kimmel of Memphis, TN; six nephews, Duane Kimmel of Royal Oak, MI, David Kimmel of Sterling Heights, MI, Steve Kimmel of Goose Creek, SC, Mike Pratte of LaPlata, MO, Eddie Pratte of Arco, ID, and Rick Pratte of Lawrence, KS; mother-in-law, Mary Baxter of Downing, MO; and one brother-in-law, James Baxter of Downing, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Willard Baxter.
Walter grew up in Schuyler County, MO and graduated from the Bible Grove High School in 1954. After serving his country in the Army, he made farming his lifelong occupation. His pastime was hunting and fishing with his dog, Shadow and especially being with his family and friends.
Walter accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized at the Downing Christian Church on June 12, 2003 and attended faithfully until his health failed.
Funeral services were held August 7, 2004, at the Downing Christian Church with Larry Smith, pastor of the Downing Christian Church officiating. Music was provided by organist Betty Anderson and soloist, Alisha Kigar. Honorary pallbearers were George Frederick, Winifred Byrn, Justin Cressler, Steve Watson, Steve Tallman, Steve Shive, John March, Philip Steele, Tommy Baxter, Doug Ruth, Nelson Tallman and Alan Creek. Active pallbearers were Jaye D. Baxter, Vaughn Ruth, Jerry Byrn, Doug Byrn, Brian Byrn, and Logan Byrn. Memorials have been established for the Coffey Cemetery. Burial was in the Coffey Cemetery. Final arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home in Downing, MO.
