Irma L. McRobert, 92, of Memphis died July 7, 2004, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis.

She was born the daughter of Don and Myrtle (Roberts) Burrus on December 26, 1911 in Bible Grove, MO.

Irma married Leland McRobert on November 15, 1931 at her parents home. He preceded her in death on August 17, 1978.

She earned her Bachelors of Science in Education at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville on the same day her daughter, Ila, earned her masters degree. Irma was a long time teacher at several rural schools in the county, before retiring from Scotland County R-1.

Irma was a member of the Memphis Christian Church, and previously a member of the Greensburg Christian Church. She was a member of the Memphis Rebekah Lodge #632.

Her husband, a brother, two sisters -one in infancy- preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children: Lowell Max McRobert and wife Frances of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, William P. McRobert and wife Sharon of Memphis, MO, Ila McRobert of Keokuk, Iowa, Shirley Townsend and husband Paul of Keokuk; sisters: Virginia Kirkpatrick of Memphis, Agnes Robinson of Memphis, Donna Doty of Memphis, and Iris Ott of El Centro, California; a sister-in-law, Gloria McRoberts of Tampa, Florida; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services were Saturday, July 10, 2004, at the Memphis First Christian Church with Pastor Jack Sumption officiating. Special music was provided by Ann Luther and Sarah Marshall. Serving as pallbearers were: Matt Brosius, Michael McRobert, Thad Hardeman, Larry Douglas, Greg Townsend, David McRobert, Joel Kapfer, and Dr. Martin Wise. Interment was in the Greensburg Cemetery, in Greensburg, Missouri.

Memorials are suggested to the Greensburg Cemetery or the Downing House Museum and can be left at or mailed to Gerth Funeral Service, 115 S. Main St., Memphis, MO 63555.
