Margaret Ireta Adams, 86, of Rutledge, Missouri passed away Tuesday evening, June 1, 2004 at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, Missouri.

Born April 14, 1918 on a farm in LaPrairie, Illinois, Margaret was the fifth of ten children born to John Truman Balfour and Matilda Harrington Balfour. On July 4, 1941, Margaret was united in marriage to Robert Lincoln Adams “Banjo Bob” who preceded her in death on January 11, 1993.

Margaret was also preceded in death by her parents, two siblings in infancy, and four brothers: Russell Balfour and wife, Ruth; Joe Balfour; Lawrence Balfour; and Herschel Balfour and wife Merlene.

She is survived by two children: Gwen Laudwig and her husband, Wayne of Greentop, Missouri and Marge Bray of Graysville, Indiana. Five grandchildren: Lori Murray and husband, Matt of Novelty, Missouri; Darin Ludwick and Kim of Memphis, Missouri; Sheri Dellion of Vincennes, Indiana; Rob Bray and wife Beth of Sullivan, Indiana; and Jamie Bray and wife Melinda of Moweaqua, Illinois. Eight great-grandchildren: Alaina Murray; Pashia Ludwick; Jordan and Nicholas Dellion; Lincoln and Lane Bray; and Andrew and Benjamin Bray. Three sisters: Emma Smith of Memphis, Missouri; Loretta Walter of LaBelle, Missouri; and Florence McPherson of Edina, Missouri. One sister-in-law: Elaine Balfour of Indianapolis, Indiana and many nieces and nephews.

After the death of their mother in 1932, the children were separated and sent to various homes, while their father searched for employment. Margaret attended school in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, and graduated high school from Richmond Heights, Missouri in 1937. The family was eventually reunited and moved to a farm near Rutledge, Missouri. During her life’s journey, Margaret and her family shared in many blessings and tragedies which always drew them to each other in love and support.

Margaret became a Christian and was baptized by Brother Tom Spurling in 1941. She dedicated her life to the Lord’s work. She was a member of the Memphis Christian Church. Margaret also enjoyed cooking for her family, making quilts, and being with her church family. She was admired and loved by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed.

Funeral services were held June 5, 2004 at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. Bro. Lloyd Pelfrey officiated the services. Interment was in the Pauline Cemetery at Rutledge, Missouri. Pallbearers were grandsons Darin Ludwick, Robert Bray, and James Bray; grandson-in-law Matt Murray; nephew Billy Walter; and friend Darrell Schultz.

An expression of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Adams may be made to the Central Christian College of the Bible in Moberly, Missouri or the Memphis Christian Church. The memorials may be left at or mailed to the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1, Edina, Missouri 63537.
