RUBY LOU SCHENK

Ruby Lou Schenk, 96, of Memphis, MO died Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, MO.
She was born February 17, 1908 in Middletown, MO, a daughter of Herman Harvey and Asenath Frances Patterson Sturgeon. She married Paul S. Schenk on August 24, 1933 in Montgomery City, MO. He survives.
Other survivors include one son, John Schenk and his wife Laura of Memphis, MO; two daughters, Mary Jean Schenk of San Francisco, CA and Esther Webber of East Peoria, IL; two brothers, Harvey Sturgeon of Gulfport, MS and Francis (Frank) Sturgeon of Spain; five grandchildren, Phillip Patterson and his wife Amy of Park Hills, MO, Caroline Morrison and her husband Roy of Lakewood, CO, Curtis Webber and his wife Laurie of Greenwood, IN, Alison Schenk Closser and her husband Joseph of Memphis, MO and Joshua Schenk of Lincoln, NE; three great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Joanna Patterson Turner Russell, on March 1, 2004; three brothers; four sisters; and her four-legged faithful friend ďBudĒ.
Ruby was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Memphis, MO. She had been a member of the Missouri Flying Farmers, was a long-standing member of the Friendly Neighbors Extension Club, and a member of the Scotland County Historical Society. She was a onetime member of the John Patterson Chapter (an ancestor) of the DAR in Florissant, MO. She graduated from Vandalia High School and later Kirksville Normal School (currently Truman State University). She worked as a doctorís assistant, a schoolteacher and a special education teacher. She was also a caregiver.
Ruby kept busy gardening, doing yard work, making floral arrangements, homemaking and doing work for the church. She was a very empathetic, compassionate person, ministering to family, friends and strangers as much as she possibly could throughout her life. She was very nurturing, taking stray animals and critters under her wing. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family. The love and wonderful memories she has created with her family, neighbors and friends will never be forgotten.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 24, 2004 at the Presbyterian Church in Memphis, MO with Reverend Charles McCracken officiating. Burial was in the Memphis Cemetery.

The Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO was in charge of arrangements.
