Floyd Wesley Erwin, 83, of Downing, MO, passed away unexpectedly in Downing, MO, April 4, 2004.

The son of Simpson B. and Lettie Jane (Aldridge) Erwin, he was born on March 1, 1921, in rural Downing, MO.

Floyd was united in marriage to Dorothy May Hall and to this union three children were born, Larry, Jerry and Linda. In February, 1980, Floyd was united in marriage to Millie J. Turnipseed.

Survivors include his wife, Millie of Downing, MO; children, Gloria Erwin, wife of Larry Erwin of Hammond, IN, Jerry Erwin of Richton Park, IL, and Linda Fisher and husband, Dave of Steger, IL; two step-children, Claudine Mesecher and her husband, Robert of Des Moines, IA and John Moss and wife, Karen of Spring, TX; six grandchildren, Corey Erwin, Perry Erwin, Tammy Saier, Matthew Erwin, Amy Joyce and Robert Joyce; four step-grandchildren, Chris Duzenberry and Nathan Duzenberry and David and Donald Fisher; one sister, Mildred Lodewegon of Chicago, IL; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry Erwin; first wife, Dorothy May Erwin on October 27, 1972; and two brothers, Warren and Junior Lee Erwin.

Floyd was employed by several firms in the Chicago, IL area including Pioneer Screw where he was a foreman for this company for several years. Floyd also served in the United States Army during World War II, where he served throughout the South Pacific. He also was a member of the VFW Post 4958 in Memphis, MO.

Funeral services were held April 7, 2004 at the Norman Funeral Home in Downing, MO, with Larry Smith, pastor of the Downing Christian Church officiating. Music was provided by organist Betty Anderson and soloist Schelle Cooley. Pallbearers were Al Erwin, Corey Erwin, Nathan Duzenberry, Jerry Erwin, Robert Joyce, Lester Clark, Bob Mesecher and Tom Redding. Honorary pallbearers were C.D. Burrus, Randy Henry, Ed Sayre, Chuck Sabin, Leroy Erwin and Bill Ketchum. Memorials have been established for the Downing Cemetery. Burial was in the Hillcrest Memorial Garden in Macon, MO. Arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home in Downing, MO.
