HARVEY H. COFFMAN, SR.
(2/24/1934 - 3/4/2004)




Harvey H. Coffman, Sr., 70, of rural Kahoka, MO, died March 4, 2004 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born February 24, 1934 at Lusk, Wyoming, a son of Harvey H. and Opal Robertson Coffman.

On February 27, 1959 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Tesch in Lake Worth, FL, and they had just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this past week.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth, of Kahoka, MO; four sons, Michael Stewart of Marion, IA, Harvey Coffman, Jr. and his wife, Maria, of Kahoka, MO, Charles Coffman and his wife, Melissa, of Kahoka, MO, and George Coffman of Keokuk, IA; two daughters, Debra Smith and her husband, Jeffrey, of Revere, MO, and Malinda Joy Beaird and her husband, Tim, of Kahoka, MO; sixteen grandchildren: Seth and Miranda Stewart, Julie Coffman, Sarah, Eddie and Chris Coffman, Kelsey Coffman, Karrie Ann Cochenour, Melissa Perry, Christopher Smith, Tony Smith, Troy Smith, Jeremy Smith, and Justin, Megan and Jessica Beaird; one great-grandchild, Lauren Cochenour; a brother, Eugene Coffman of New Caney, TX; two sisters, Marianne Thomson of Mayer AZ and Bonita Dexter of Gardner KS; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father Clifford Cone, who raised him; step-father, Wylie Pollock; and a sister, Terry Huerto.

Harvey graduated from Memphis High School. He entered the U. S. Army where he earned the distinction of being an all-around-infantryman, which is awarded to a select few.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wayland, MO. A retired sheet metal worker, he was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local # 91 out of Rock Island, IL.

Harvey loved being home with his family and especially family gatherings. He enjoyed being outdoors and loved taking care of his property and keeping the grounds looking nice. He also enjoyed his workshop and spending time there working on things. He enjoyed camping and listening to country music. He was known for his good advice and was a good, loving family man and took pride in the work he did. He always stressed the importance of loving one another.

Funeral services were held March 8, 2004 at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Dan Deatrick officiating. Mr. Mathew Eder was soloist accompanied by Mrs. Kathy Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers were Denver McClamroch and John McDaniel. Pallbearers were Andrew Cochenour, Jeffrey Smith, Timothy Beaird, James West, Dave Eberhardt and James Elder.

Burial with military rites by Herman Blum Post # 192 of the American Legion and Ayer-Boatman Post # 4342, V.F.W., was in Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials were suggested to Clark County Local Cancer Fund, Blessing Hospice, or the First Baptist Church, Wayland.
