GARNET F. ďJESSEĒ JAMES, JR.

Garnet F. ďJesseĒ James, Jr., 74, of Memphis, MO, died January 26, 2004, at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, MO.

He was born December 6, 1929 in Moberly, MO to Garnet Frederick and Irene Finnell James.

He graduated from Moberly High School, Moberly, MO. He enlisted in the Army in 1947 in Kansas City, MO, where he served until 1951, being discharged with the rank of Corporal. He was a baseball pitcher for the Ban Johnson League, Moberly Miners and then pitched for the St. Joseph Cardinal minor league.

On March 27, 1955, he was united in marriage to Sharon ďSueĒ Louise Kreeger in Moberly, MO. She died October 10, 1994.

Shortly after his marriage, Jesse and Sue moved to Memphis, MO, where they resided for 27 years during which time he owned and operated a grocery store for several years before going into farming. They then moved to Independence, MO, where he worked for a vending business prior to his retirement and moving back to Memphis, MO. He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Memphis Country Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and during retirement he became an avid golfer and was an avid Scotland County Tiger fan, rarely missing an activity either by being present or listening to the broadcasts.

He is survived by a daughter, Barbie Courtright and husband, Bob of Memphis, MO; and two sons, Gary James and wife, Carla of Leeís Summit, MO, and Tom James and wife, Lisa of Grain Valley, MO; nine grandchildren, Kaden James, David Enloe, Beth Enloe, Heather Enloe, David James, Taylor James, Nichole James, Brett Courtright and Brittney Courtright; and two great-grandchildren, Dakota Driscoll and Tomas Yslas. Also surviving are two sisters, Betty Turner and husband, Tom of Fulton, MO and Wilma Ancell and husband, Chet of Clinton, MO; a brother, Homer James and wife, Sharon of Columbia, MO; a brother-in-law, Brian Ornburn of Jefferson City, MO; mother-in-law, Thelma L. Kreeger, Memphis, MO; a special companion, Marcine Evans of Memphis, MO; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Marjorie Ornburn.

Funeral services were held January 30, 2004 at the Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, MO, with Brother Larry Smith officiating. Angela Westhoff, vocalist, was accompanied by Ann Luther. Casket bearers were Kaden James, David Enloe, David James, Taylor James, Brett Courtright, Brittney Courtright, Frank Reed and Duane Courtright. Honorary bearers were Tom Shalley, John Ed Luther, Floyd Walker, Waldo McWilliam, R.C. Seppelt, Vernon Yoder, Dick Johnson, Bill Atwater, and Vic Orf. Burial was in the Memphis Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Timber Ridge Golf Course and may be left at or sent to the funeral home. Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, MO was in charge of arrangements.
