Robert C. (Bob) Schlotter of Van Buren Good Samaritan Center, Keosauqua, IA, formerly of Memphis, MO, died December 26, 2003.

Bob was born February 26, 1924, in Troy, IA, a son of Cecil and Elizabeth Gardner Schlotter.

He graduated from Troy High School, Troy, IA, and attended Iowa Weslyan College and University of Iowa.

He married Marilyn Drake on December 22, 1946 and to this union two children were born.

Bob was a veteran of World War II and served over three years in the Medic Corps. After being discharged from the Army, he studied to be a dentist but decided he loved farming. He and his father-in-law, Leo Drake, farmed for many years together. He enjoyed going to plowing matches and competed in the antique division.

Bob served on the Northeast Missouri Rural Telephone Board of Directors, was a member of the Memphis United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M., and was a Rainbow Dad. In his retirement he loved to golf, play cards, travel, fish and play in pool tournaments.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn of Keosauqua, IA; two daughters, Sharon Cox and husband, Bob of Urbandale, IA, and Dee Dee Eggleston and husband, John of Memphis, MO; one grandson, Eric Cox of Sioux City, IA; one brother, Tom Schlotter and wife, Carolyn of Hiawatha, IA; one sister, Betty Langford and husband, Dale of Troy, IA; one brother-in-law, Leo Drake, Jr. and wife, Joan of Memphis, TN; his mother-in-law, Mary Drake of Keosauqua, IA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Damen Eggleston; one brother, Harold Schlotter and his father-in-law, Leo Drake, Sr.

The family has suggested memorials to the Memphis Masonic Lodge #16 A.F.&A.M. and the Troy Academy of Troy, IA.

Funeral services were held December 29, 2003 at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Rev. Charles Hammack officiating. Music was provided by Joan Hinds, organist, and Anna Lynn Kirkpatrick, soloist. Pallbearers were Stan Eggleston, Jim Curry, Ray Ford, Steve Morris, Duane McDonald, and Bob Henselman. Honorary bearers were Harold Childress, Bill Atwater, John Aylward, Dick Johnson, Elmer Kirkpatrick, Vernon Yoder, Vic Orf and R.C. Seppelt. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO.
