Ira Estel Goosey, 86, of Lancaster, MO, passed away on December 25, 2003, at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, MO.

The son of Millard Edgar and Hattie (Jackson) Goosey, he was born on November 15, 1917, in Lamoni, IA.

In 1937, Estel was married to Letha Pauline Leonard and to this union five children were born, Loretta, Charles Edgar, Robert Eugene, James LeRoy and Ira Paul.

On June 16, 1995, Estel married Lura Darr of Lancaster, MO.

Survivors included his wife, Lura Goosey of Lancaster, MO; his children, Loretta Alden and husband, Gideon of Kempton, PA, Charles Edgar Goosey and wife, Barbara of Sturgeon, MO, James LeRoy Goosey and wife, Patty of Parker, CO, Ira Paul Goosey and wife, Vicky of Bloomfield, NM; step-children, Lynda Havard and husband, Tom of Carrollton, TX, Marsha Eppley and husband, Lyndell of Lufkin, TX, and Lisa Darr of Lufkin, TX; 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Hellen Harlow of Coal City, IL, Mary Biere of New Cambria, MO, Cora Reno and husband, Charles of Ottumwa, IA, Mary Biere of New Cambria, MO, Cora Reno and husband, Charles of Ottumwa, IA, Carolyn Calton and husband, Grover of Fortuna, MO, and Lottie Knight of Berkley, MI; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Estel is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline; two sons, Robert Eugene Goosey and Jerry Lee Bailey; eight brothers, V.R., Roy, Paul, Carroll, Bud, Bill, Gene, Rex Jr.; four sisters, Verta Miller, Ruth Sims, Ethel Laycock, and Julia Duncan.

Estel was a member of the Baptist Church in Lancaster, MO, and also the VFW #5898.

Estel drove transit buses for the Missouri Transit Bus Company from 1941 to 1956. In 1944 until 1945 he was in the Army during World War II in the 333 K Company of the Infantry Division. In 1956 he worked for the El Paso Natural Gas Company as a mechanic until his retirement in 1983. After his retirement in 1983, his passion was traveling, ďthe open roadĒ.

Memorial services will be held Friday, January 2, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Baptist Church in Lancaster, MO, with Mark DeShon officiating assisted by Robert Cherry, pianist will be Donna Welte. Memorials have been established as a donorís choice for the Schuyler County Hall Museum or Schuyler County Cancer Fund. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Farmington, NM. Final arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, MO.
