Injured Memphis Marine Back In United States

Memphis Marine Robbie Miller is back in the states and recovering from injuries he suffered in military action in Iraq. Miller, a recent graduate of SCR-I High School, was injured November 10 in fighting near Fallujah.

Robbie’s parents reported that the Marine is back in California were he is undergoing rehabilitation for an injured arm and leg. They stated they are hopeful Robbie will be able to come home to Memphis for Christmas.

As our country is currently engaged in a war against terrorism, many of our best and brightest have volunteered for service to defend our great nation. To show support for the sacrifices given and as a response to the need of one of our service families, area businesses have risen to the challenge to help the Gorin School seventh and eighth graders “Kids Who Care” raise money for the family of Scotland County wounded Marine, Robbie Miller.

More than $400 has been raised by the group already.

Collection cans for donations contributing to the fund to help with travel expenses for his parents, Glen and Suzie Miller, have been distributed to the following businesses: Casey’s, Countryside Flowers, Dollar General, Flower Garden, Gas and More, Gerth and Baskett/Gerth Funeral Service, Hinds Realty, J’s Foods, Kountry Konnections, Pizza Hut, Scotland County Lanes, Scotland County Pharmacy, and Wallace W. Gillespie VFW Memorial Post #4958.

The collection cans will be available at the above locations for the next three to four weeks. If any business desires a can, please contact the Gorin School at (660) 282-3282, care of Dani Fromm, and the students will make a can and deliver it. There has been a bank account established at Community Bank in Memphis, and donations may also be left at that location.

The Flower Garden, Countryside Flowers, and Kountry Konnection are all making yellow ribbons for people to buy to put on their cars. What the students want to do is have people line the street when Robbie comes back to town.
