Additional Probate Records Now Available On Microfilm

Additional historical and genealogical records from the Scotland County Probate Court are now available to the public on microfilm at Scotland County Memorial Library, according to Associate Circuit Judge Karl DeMarce.

“These records supplement the first set of microfilms provided to the library last year,” DeMarce said. “This set includes the wills, one of the items most requested by researchers.”

An index to the probate files on microfilm has also been provided to the library by the probate court.

Microfilming of Scotland County probate records was made possible at no cost to Scotland County general revenue by the Missouri State Archives Probate Records Preservation Program.

New records at the library include wills for Mae Abernathey all the way through the alphabet to Zelpha R. Baird Zook. The wills coverage covers from 1838 through 2002 and consists of four complete microfilm roles C43986-C43989.

Sixteen additional reels of microfilm of probate records were added covering 1842 through 1973.

There are five additional microfilm reels involving wills, six reels of film of probate court minutes for 1914-1980, and 11 reels of film of court settlements from 1867 to 1980.
