Omicron Thetaís March Madness Lending a Hand To Aid Ronald McDonald House
March Madness is all about basketball. But the Omicron Theta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi is putting a new twist on the hoops fun with its special March Madness fundraiser.
The group has six mystery players for contestants to try to identify. All six people are former basketball players from the area. The trick is identifying all six based on an old photograph taken back during their playing days. Some of these former hoops stars have changed a little since then so the group also has given you a clue to help identify each one.
To play the game, simply look for the ballot in the next two issues of the Memphis Democrat. Identify all six players, clip out the ballot and mail it to chapter secretary Crystal Smith at RR 1 Box 179 Memphis, MO, 63555. Be sure to enclose a donation (a minimum of $1 has been suggested) with each entry.
Omicron Theta members will also have ballots at home Scotland County R-I basketball games and at other public events. The entry forms may also be picked up at MCM Savings Bank, Bank of Kirksville, U.S. Bank, Community Bank of Memphis, Caseyís General Store and the Memphis Democrat.
One lucky winner will be selected from all the correct entries and will receive a $50 savings bond.
All proceeds for this fundraiser will go to the Ronald McDonald House in Columbia. The facility served more than 700 families last year, providing parents of critically ill children a place to stay while the child is hospitalized in Columbia.
The house has been selected as the 2004 Missouri State Service Project for Beta Sigma Phi. The group hopes to raise $7,000 statewide to pay for the cost of refurbishing one bedroom at the Ronald McDonald Home.
ďI can tell you from personal experience what a blessing this House is to the families of sick children,Ē said Mary Fryer, project chairperson for the state. ďOur family was one of the first to stay at this facility. The calm, restful environment helped us through many hard times.Ē
