KMEM, News Director Rick Fischer Receive Media Honor

KMEM 100.5 FM in Memphis and news director Rick Fischer recently received a very prestigious honor by being selected for top honors in the state of Missouri as the recipient of the 2003 Media Award in recognition for special Community Service efforts.

The special recognition came from the Missouri Public Service Commission, chaired by Missouri Lieutenant Governor Joe Maxwell.

In a press release, the Commission stated its mission, which is ďto build stronger communities by fostering an ethnic of service in all MissouriansĒ and to ďrecognize those who have shown exceptional effort in support of community service projects in their areaĒ.

In expressing his thanks for the special recognition, Fischer stated, ďSince KMEM first signed on the air March 29th, 1982, our primary concern has always been to inform and provide area residents with local news, sports and entertainment coverage of events of local interest, and to promote the Tri-State area in general. While it is unusual for the spotlight to be shining on us, all of us here at KMEM are extremely pleased and proud to receive this very special recognition. We all feel that this is a great area in which to live and raise a family, and we pledge to continue to provide our same type of quality service for years to come.Ē

Fischer will mark the start of his 22nd year in broadcasting at KMEM this coming March 29th.

KMEM, specifically Fischer, was nominated by Clark County R-I Superintendent Randy Sheriff, who stated in his letter of recommendation that ďKMEM appropriately blends business with community service to the extent that you feel that they are not in business at all, but simply in service to the tri-state region. Fischer is also very giving of his time to provide his services at area fundraisers and other activities that support everything from our band to other community groups and activities.Ē

Lieutenant Governor Joe Maxwellís office reports that over 30 nominations were received statewide for the honor in Television, Print, and Radio Broadcast media, for which KMEM and Fischer received the top honor in the state of Missouri.
