Crawford Man Facing Assault Charges After Alleged Shooting

A Memphis man remains in the Scotland County jail on $100,000 bond following his arrest New Year’s Eve on assault charges.

The Scotland County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at the Richard E. Burlingame residence in Crawford at 7:30 p.m. December 31, 2003.

The department indicated it had received reports that Burlingame was in possession of firearms, a violation of his parole. The complaints stemmed from a reported altercation between Burlingame and another man during which Burlingame reportedly discharged a weapon.

A search of the home uncovered two weapons as well as alcoholic beverages, both violations of Burlingame’s parole. A third firearm reportedly belonging to Burlingame was recovered at a neighboring residence.

Burlingame faces a parole revocation hearing for the violations and law officers indicated charges are pending in the assault case.
