Trenton’s Guard Duo Does In Lady Tigers Trophy Hopes
A pair of talented Trenton guards prevented the Scotland County Lady Tigers from returning home with any hardware from the Putnam County Tourney December 15.
Amber Vanderder and Christina Woodard combined for 44 of Trenton’s 63 points in a 63-46 victory over SCR-I in the tournament’s third place game.
Scotland County jumped on top 15-11 in the first quarter as four of the five starters got into the score book in a balanced first quarter of scoring.
Woodward kept Trenton in the game scoring all 11 first quarter points for her team.
The Lady Tigers fell on hard times in the second quarter, managing just nine points. Trenton did not face the same problems as they poured in 19 points to take the 30-24 lead at half time.
While Woodward had 16 of her game high 25 points in the first half it was Vanderder who took over in the second half, scoring all 19 of her points after the intermission.
The two teams played an even third period, with Trenton gaining the slight advantage at 14-13. Again SCR-I had a balance attack with five different players contributing on offense.
But the even numbered quarter ultimately did SCR-I in again as it was an identical performance to the second period, with Trenton outscoring the Lady Tigers 19-9 to cruise to the 63-46 win.
Ali Fromm led Scotland County with 18 points on the night. Jessie Cotton chimed in with 12 points and four other Lady Tigers finished with four points.
The loss dropped Scotland County to 2-4 on the year with one game remaining before the Christmas break.
