Tigers Cant Lasso Big Man In Loss To Mustangs

The door was open for the Scotland County Tigers to make a move in the second period but several costly turnovers and struggles at the free throw line let the Mustangs maintain the halftime lead and build on the advantage en route to a 68-51 win in Memphis December 2.

The Tigers held Davis Countys hulking center, Wes Aeschliman to just four points in the second period. The senior center had kept Davis County in the game in the first period with of all things, a trio of three pointers.

Danny Roach did the bulk of the damage in the first period for Scotland County, scoring seven of his team-high 17 points in the opening quarter.

While the defense held Aeschliman down in the second period, the Tigers could not take advantage of the opportunity and saw a 14-13 lead turn into a 28-22 deficit at the intermission.

Greg Neagle nailed a couple of jumpers from the free throw line area but that was really the only offense of the period until Bryce Blomme and Clint Cottrell scored on offensive rebounds. SCR-I missed three straight front ends of the 1-1 bonus at the free throw line to compound the scoring problems.

Aeschliman proved to be at the center of the Tigers offensive problems as he blocked half a dozen shots in the second period alone, slowing down the SCR-I post game.

The Tigers continued to struggle to get the shots to go down in the second half, converting just five field goals in the final 16 minutes of play.

However the free throw line kept the Tigers in the game as SCR-I hit 18 of 22 from the charity stripe in the third and fourth quarters.

But Aeschliman ultimately proved to be too much for the Tigers defense to stop as he poured in 11 points in the third period on his way to a game-high 25 points.

Joining Roach at the top of the Tigers score book were Neagle with 11 points and Aaron Dale with nine. Cottrell put in eight points while grabbing 23 rebounds in the contest.

SCR-I falls to 0-2 on the year while Davis County goes to 1-0 with the win in the Mustangs season opener.
