Seniors Lead SCR-I Softball Team To Win Over Raiders
A pair of seniors helped pace the Scotland County R-I softball team to a 3-0 conference win over North Shelby September 30.
Designated hitter Becky Miller was a perfect 4-4 at the plate and drove home the team’s first run in the opening frame.
Sara Eggleston shutout the Raiders on just two hits. North Shelby did not get its first hit until the sixth inning. Eggleston struck out five and walked two as the team improved to 13-6 and 3-3 in league play.
The senior hurler also did damage at the plate. She started the game with a base hit and moved to third on a hit by Brandi Mallett before Miller drove her home with the first of her four hits.
Eggleston made it 2-0 in the third inning once again setting the plate with a leadoff hit. A base hit by Katie Schneider moved her into scoring position and she crossed the plate when Ali Fromm reached on an error.
The final tally came in the fourth inning. Jessie Cotton started the inning with a walk. Valerie Crawford reached on an error before Cotton scored on an RBI groundout by Eggleston.
