Lady Tigers Beat Brookfield 5-3 For First League Victory
Who can blame the Lady Tigers softball team for being a little sluggish considering the long trip to Brookfield September 22. But the team was nearly ready to get back on the bus before it broke out the offense and rallied for a 5-3 win over the Lady Bulldogs.
SCR-I opened a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Sara Eggleston opened the game with a base hit and came around to score on an RBI single by Ali Fromm.
Brookfield took over from there and led 3-1 after five innings.
But the offense finally got rolling in the sixth frame. Eggleston once again started it off with a double. She scored on a hit by Rebecca Consbrock. After Brandi Mallett was hit by a pitch Valerie Crawford loaded the bases with a single. Jacqui Drummond plated one run with a base hit before Jessie Cotton sent two more runs home with a double to make the score 5-3.
Eggleston nailed down the game from there. She struck out eight batters on the game after allowing 11 hits and two walks.
