Tiger Cubs Split Pair of Games Last Week
The Scotland County Tiger Cubs took to the field not once but twice last week. Game one was a makeup game from last Saturdayís rainout. Tuesday night at Tiger Field saw the Tigers taking on a large North Shelby team.
As the night started it was a game of field position, of which the young Tigers had none. North Shelby penned the Tigers deep in their own territory and took the ball over on downs and proceeded to take a quick score, not giving up the Tigers stopped the 2pt conversion attempt and at the end of the 1st quarter the score was 6-0 North Shelby.
The 2nd quarter was a lot better for the Tigers as they got on the board as Caleb Hunt scored a touchdown. The first half drew to an end and the score was Scotland County six North Shelby 14. The second half was a defensive battle between both the teams and neither scored as the final score remained 14-6 North Shelby.
The second game of the week came Saturday night at Tiger Field, and what a show, as the young Tigers put together their best game of the season beating the Milan Wildcats 42-14. Several Tigers got in the scoring column as the Tigers rushed for over 335 yards and scored six touchdowns.
Milan got on the board first early in the first quarter as they took the ball 51 yards in five plays and took an early 6-0 lead against the Tigers. Milan then kicked off and the floodgates opened. The Tigers took the ball and scored on a 9-yd touchdown run by Caleb Hunt. The score was all tied up at 6-6.
The Tigers held the Wildcats and got the ball back. Then it was Mathew Rockholdís turn, as he barreled over the Wildcats from 8 yards out and then he took the ball in for the 2-pt conversion to put the Tigers up 14-6. Again the Tigers kicked off and held the wildcats to get the ball back with around 2 minutes left in the half.
The Tigers had another impressive drive which ended with a 12 yard sprint into the end zone by Caleb Hunt and a 2pt conversion run by Zach Orton to end the 1st half with the Tiger Cubs up 22-6.
The Tigers scored three more touchdowns in the 2nd half as Mathew Rockhold scored from one yard out and Zach Orton added another 2pt conversion, then early in the 4th quarter Caleb Hunt took the ball off tackle 50 yards into the end zone and put the Tigers up 36-6.
Milan then scored again to close the gap 36-14. The Tigers got back on the board when Sabe Sears slashed through the line and sprinted 61 yard into the end zone to end the scoring and slam the door on the end of the game.
Several Tigers touched the ball in amassing over 335 yards of offense on the night. Caleb Hunt rushed 12 time for 169 yard and 3 scores. Mathew Rockhold had 12 carries for 67yds and two TDs. Brandon Garnett rushed the ball four times for 30 yards while Zach Orton had two carries for six yards and a pair of 2pt conversions. Sabe Sears had one carry for 61yds and a TD and Dakota Wells had one carry for two yards.
The Tigers play this Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at Edina as they take on the Knox County 5th and 6th graders. Come see the Tigers as they try to beat the Eagles and get their second win of the season.
