Lady Tigers Advance To District Title Tilt With 47-42 Win Over Canton
After falling behind 6-2 in the first minute of the District 6 semi-finals Scotland County never trailed again on their way to a 47-42 victory over Canton. That didn't mean the game wasn't interesting as Canton rallied from 10 points down to tie the game with four minutes to play before Scotland County was able to make the big plays down the stretch.
Canton led 6-2 early on before Meagan Fromm took over. She converted back-to-back three-point plays before hitting a jumper to give her all 10 points for Scotland County as the Lady Tigers led 10-6.
SCR-I continued to roll in the first period. Ali Fromm hit a three pointer and Amy Blomme scored on an offensive rebound to help the Lady Tigers build an 18-10 advantage after the first period.
Meagan Fromm had five quick points to start the second period and the lead bulged to double digits after her three pointer.
Valerie Crawford came off the bench to help keep the offense rolling. She hit a jumper from the wing and then found Rebecca Consbrock underneath with a nice pass for an easy score that sent SCR-I to the locker room on top 30-19 at the half.
Canton pulled within striking distance in the third quarter and trailed by just six points heading into the final eight minutes.
The rally continued as the fourth period opened. Canton pulled within two points forcing a Scotland County timeout. The stoppage didn't stall the run as Canton tied the game at 40-40.
After Brandi Mallett scored on an offensive rebound Canton again tied the game at 42-42. But Meagan Fromm put her team on top for good with a huge three pointer at the 2:18 mark.
Neither team could change the scoreboard over the next 90 seconds forcing Canton to foul to stop the clock. Ali Fromm made one of two from the charity stripe to make it a two-possession game with 37 ticks left on the clock.
The Tigers defense got the job done, forcing a Canton turnover to seal the win. Jessie Cotton added a free throw to make the final score 47-42.
Meagan Fromm led all scorers with 27 points. Ali Fromm and Brandi Mallett each had six points in the win.
