Tigers Topple Milan To Move Up In District Seeding Process

The Scotland County varsity boys got into the win column in conference play in impressive fashion, blowing out Milan 67-38 on February 11 in Milan.

Just as important as the conference win was the seating implications the victory had for district play. The win likely insures the Tigers at least a fourth seed in the district Tourney March 3 (ahead of Milan and Princeton - who lost to the Wildcats earlier this year).

The Tigers fed off a full court press in the first three periods to help build a 20 point lead with more than eight minutes to play.

"They stayed with us early on but we stuck with the press and it paid off," said Coach Jaryt Hunziker. "The press helped us on offense as well as we really pushed the ball up the court and had one of our better passing games of the season."

The Tigers opened up a 15-8 advantage in the first period thanks to nine early points from Chase Moore.

The senior guard continued his strong performance into the second period, adding 10 more points, including a pair of three pointers.

"They were having trouble stopping Chase so we just stuck with what was working," Hunziker said. "He was working well breaking down the defense off the dribble and when he didn't get a shot he found somebody underneath for an easy score."

Clint Cottrell was the main benefactor in the third quarter as he poured in 12 points in the paint as the Tigers blew the game open with an 18-7 run.

Scotland County didn't let up down the stretch as a balanced scoring attack further extended the lead to provide the final margin of 67-38.

Moore finished with 25 points to lead all scorers. Cottrell added 20 points in the winning effort. Toren Skinner had six points and Aaron Dale and Nick Oldham contributed five points each.

The win sends the Scotland County record to 5-14 and 1-3 in the Tri-Rivers Conference.
