Big Second Half Leads Tigers To Victory Over Marion County
A huge second half by Scotland County turned a 20-20 halftime tie into a 64-48 victory for the Tigers over Marion County in the opening round of the North Shelby Tournament January 20 in Shelbina.
SCR-I opened up a 15-7 lead in the first period and looked poised to blow the game open. Three pointers by Chase Moore and Jake Fogle helped open up the margin.
But the lead disappeared in the second quarter as the Tigers struggled with turnovers allowing Marion County to get back in the game.
Scotland County nearly matched its first half output in the third period, pouring in 19 points to create some breathing room and a 39-27 lead. Clint Cottrell had seven points during the key run.
The offense continued to roll for the Tigers in the fourth period as SCR-I tacked on 25 points during the final eight minutes to win easily 64-48. Scotland County put the bulk of those points up at the free throw line hitting 12 of 16 from the charity stripe in the final period. Andy Boyer came off the bench to give the team a big boost down the stretch with a strong performance on the boards and on defense and also chipping in with his first three pointer of the year.
The Tigers improved to 3-9 on the year as a balanced scoring attack led the team into the semifinals of the tourney. Moore topped the scoring with 15 points. Cottrell finished with 14 points while Fogle had 13 and Aaron Dale had 11 to give the team four players in double-digits.
Bo Britt led Marion County (1-9) with 15 points.
The fourth seeded Tigers will now take on #1 seed North Shelby Thursday night, January 23 at 6:00 p.m.
