Knox County Knocks Tigers Out Of Highland Tourney
Knox County extracted a bit of revenge for an early season loss bouncing Scotland County from the Highland Tournament in the process in a 56-55 nail-biter January 9 in the second round tourney contest.
A season-high 27 points from Chase Moore was not enough for Scotland County, which fell to 2-7 on the season less than a week after beating the Eagles in front of a home crowd in Memphis.
The two teams traded buckets to open the game tied at 14-14 after one period of play. Clint Cottrell had seven points in the opening quarter to help SCR-I keep pace.
The second period turned into an old fashion dual between Moore and Knox County's Laden Force. Moore poured in 10 of his team's 14 points in the quarter. Force also had 10 points in the period as Knox County pulled ahead 30-28.
The two teams continued to fill it up in the third period. Moore hit a pair of three pointers and Nick Oldham added another triple as the Tigers hit for 16 points in the quarter. That wasn't enough however as the Eagles went one better in the period to build a 47-44 advantage.
Both offenses slowed down in the fourth period. Knox County managed just nine points down the stretch. But the Tigers just could not take advantage of the defensive stops and the Eagles held on for the 56-55 win.
Moore topped all scorers with 27 points. Cottrell finished with nine points and Oldham added seven points. Force led Knox County with 19 points.
