OTHO R. PETERS
(1/28/1913 - 11/17/2003)

Otho Raymond Peters, 90, formerly of Wayland, MO, died November 17, 2003, at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, MO, where he had been a resident the past two years.

He was one of three children born to William and Ella Weaver Peters on January 28, 1913, in his folksí rural home close to Arbela, MO.

Otho, who always preferred the nickname ďOcieĒ, graduated from Plum College after attending the eighth grade. Plum College was the name of the little country school he attended near Arbela, MO.

On April 12, 1944, he and Twila McCoy were married at the Wayland United Methodist Church. She was always the love of his life and had worked beside him for almost 60 years.

Survivors include his wife, Twila of Kahoka, MO; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Hazel Peters of Grandview, MO, Virginia and Robert Kullman of Cole Camp, MO, John and Marvene McCoy of Lebanon, MO, and Theron and Betty McCoy of Kahoka, MO; nieces and nephews, Kenneth Nelson of Hales Corner, WI, Carol Harvey of New Berlin, WI, Irene Price of Lees Summit, MO, Anna Kay Rentfrow of Independence, MO, Elizabeth Watson of Craig, CO, Tamila McCoy of Rosamond, CA, and Carol Brookhart of Kahoka, MO; four great-nephews; eight great-nieces; two great-great-nephews; and three great-great-nieces; as well as cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rollo Peters; a sister, Dorothy Nelson; and a brother-in-law, Howard Nelson.

ďOcieísĒ life was always centered around farming. From planting the row crops year in and year out, to taking care of hogs and cattle, to caring for the test plots he grew for McAllister Seed Company. He retired from farming in 1980 and continued as a salesman for several years following.

His hobbies were always tied to agriculture. He enjoyed spending time checking out new machinery, new blends of corn and beans, as well as keeping up on the latest information on cattle and hogs. Mondays and Wednesdays always meant a trip to the Kahoka Sale Barn, and during harvest season, a daily trip to the elevator to check out prices and find out what was going on.

As long as his health permitted, he was an active member of the Wayland United Methodist Church, serving as secretary of the Sunday School, mowing yard, shoveling snow, to fixing almost anything in and around the church. He had shared his keen sense of humor with family and friends throughout the years with stories, jokes, and a math puzzle or problem thrown in every so often for good measure.

Funeral services were held November 21, 2003 at the Wayland United Methodist Church with Rev. Rebecca Dunger Peak officiating. Mrs. Carol Brookhart was organist and soloist. Special music was congregational singing, with Mrs. Beverly Laffoon, accompanist. Pallbearers were John McDaniel, Jr., Robert St. Clair, Kenneth Blody, Steve Wilson, Dean Hunziker, and John Henry Brookhart. Burial was in Kahoka Cemetery. Memorials were suggested to the Wayland United Methodist Church, the Clark County Nursing Home, or to the Kahoka Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Wilson Funeral Home, Kahoka, MO.
