ORVILLE W. “JUNIOR” SHINN
(7/9/1943 - 9/11/2003)
Orville W. “Junior” Shinn, 60, of Memphis, MO, died September 11, 2003, while working at a farm north of Arbela, MO.
He was born July 9, 1943, in Scotland County, MO, to Orville William and Hazel Mae Mathes Shinn, Sr.
He graduated from Memphis High School, Class of 1961.
On September 8, 1963, he was united in marriage to Sharon K. Davis.
Junior was the plant manager for Ferrellgas in Memphis, MO. He also was a farmer. Junior loved hunting and fishing but he mostly enjoyed his grandchildren. He was a mechanic for many years for Harold Davis. Junior enjoyed going to auctions and yard sales. He was a ring man for Orton Auction Service. Junior was a former member of the Scotland County Fire Department.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Memphis, MO.
Survivors include his children, Melanie Slayton and husband, Joe of Memphis, MO, David Shinn and his wife, Meera of Memphis, MO, Brandi Shinn-Norton and friend, Jason Campbell of Memphis, MO, and Devin T. Blake of West Virginia; five grandchildren, Amanda and Brett Shinn, Seth, Ryan and Adam Slayton; three step-grandchildren, Michael, Patrick and Matthew Mutchler; four sisters, Barbara Orton and husband, Donald of Memphis, MO, Shirley Dabler and husband, Roger of Cedar Rapids, IA, Nellie Steele of Memphis, MO, and Zelma Rodgers and husband, Larry of Rolla, MO. He is also survived by a special friend, Karen Norton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Virginia; and a brother-in-law, Bill Steele.
Funeral services were held September 15, 2003, in the Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, MO with Rev. Carol Blackwell officiating. Music was by Joan Hinds. Active casket bearers were Kent Mallett, Shawn McDowell, Kelly Bevill, Carl Raine, Bill McBee, and Floyd C. “Coney” Baker. Honorary casket bearers were Donald Orton, Bill Orton, John Schenk, Bob Gregory, Carl Trueblood, James Dale Baker, Alan Graber, and Rick Parton. Burial was in the Memphis Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Scotland County Fire Department. Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, MO was in charge of arrangements.
