LEROY M. DORAN

LeRoy M. Doran, 79, longtime resident of Rutledge, MO, and recently of Kirksville, died Monday, September 8, 2003, at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
He was born the son of Paul Alexander and Cecil May (Blowers) Doran on January 26, 1924 in Cortland, NY.
Roy married LaDonna Washburn on March 30, 1962. She survives.
He was a loving husband, a proud father, an honorable veteran of the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles during World War II and the Korean War, a carpenter, and a farmer. During the last 25 years of his life he became a published poet and author of short stories that drew upon his love of nature, family, and his deeply patriotic ideals for inspiration.
He was an accomplished wood sculptor and model builder. He was a member of the New Testament Church in Rutledge, MO.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Leslie Alexander of Punta Gorda, FL, and Lawrence (Skeeter) Doran of Arcadia, FL, and a sister, Emma Campbell of McGraw, NY.
He is survived by his wife, LaDonna, of Kirksville; four sons: Jim and his wife Vickie Doran of Islamorada, FL, Don and his wife Gina Doran of Boynton Beach, FL, Paul and his wife Susan Doran of Newport News, VA, and John and his wife Misty Doran of Kirksville; five sisters, Mary Quaile of Arcadia, FL, Reta Oaks of Pelzer, SC, Suzy Inman of Cortland, NY, Jody Doran of Lawrenceville, GA, and Sandra Emerson of Madison, GA; five grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral and celebration of his extraordinary life was held on Friday, September 12, 2003, at the New Testament Church in Rutledge with Pastor Jim Brown officiating. Special music was provided by Jim and LaMayra Brown. Serving as pallbearers were Jim Doran, Don Doran, Paul Doran, John Doran, Jeff Doran, and David Emerson. Burial was in the Pauline Cemetery, Rutledge, MO, with military graveside rites performed by the Wallace W. Gillespie Memorial Post #4958 of Memphis. Memorials are suggested to the New Testament Church and can be left at or mailed to Gerth Funeral Service, 115 S. Main St., Memphis, MO 63555.
Arrangements were handled by Gerth Funeral Service from their Memphis chapel.
